About the artist:
Heide E. Presse has always been interested in historical
subjects, and for the last few years has been on a journey discovering
the 19th century. She loves to read journals, and recently began
participating in living history events. In order to give her work
historical authenticity, Heide also sews period garments and quilts,
and collects antique items to use as props. Preferring to depict
the simpler, everyday moments in life, her art gives glory to the
ordinary, using rich color and dramatic light.
Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Heide grew up in north
Louisiana and earned her BFA in Texas. She and her husband currently
live in central Florida with their son. After moving from Texas,
where Heide worked in commercial art, she found herself at a crossroad
and decided to pursue painting as a career.
Her watercolors and oils have been included in many
juried and invitational shows including Western Visions at the National
Museum of Wildlife Art, American Art in Miniature at the Gilcrease
Museum, Oil Painters of America's National Exhibition, History Meets
the Arts in Gettysburg, Pa, the American and National Watercolor
Societies, and many years and awards in the Arts for the Parks Top
100. Private collections include the San Antonio Missions National
Historical Park and the Silver Cos.
Heide works from a studio in her home in Tampa, Florida.
And though she paints various subjects, she has been enjoying researching
the 19th century, and producing paintings that are as true to the
era as possible.
