Last Call of the Monarch
by Jack Paluh

Last Call of the Monarch portrays a scene, years ago, when virgin forests and grassy meadows stretched over the East. There lived an animal that the Shawnee called "Wapiti", the settlers named "Elk". Roaming in great numbers through the Eastern Territory, these majestic creatures moved through the dark woods like ghosts, their bugling resounded off the mountains every autumn.
