Blue Belt

Sacajawea shows Captain Clark the newly finished beaded belt she made with blue beads given her by him and Captain Meriwether Lewis. The story of the blue belt is one of friendship and unselfish generosity; of how this courageous young woman gave up one of her most prized possessions to acquire a magnificent sea otter robe that neither Clark nor Lewis had been able to purchase from a Chinook Indian. This is only one unique story to emerge from the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery's remarkable expedition to the Pacific coast in 1805-1806.
