True
Companions by John Weiss
John is known nationally as the foremost
portrait artist of the canine species. His intimate observation
of the animal has evolved into an insight into our relationships
with them and even ourselves. And, in the case of this particular
painting, himself. True Companions is an homage to his Labrador
retriever, Maggie. Though John does not paint himself into his own
work, we are observing a common occurrence in his own backyard.
While the two seem to be basking in the warmth and amber glow of
the evening's fire, is it possible that something else deflects
the night's chill? In the company of his steadfast companion, a
moment that could be considered full of loneliness becomes one of
magic. Published from the artist's original oil painting.
