            A
              Fearful Noise by John Buxton
            In the early
winter of 1754, no man traveled the outland frontier without the
company of friends. The hostility between the English and the French
at this time is fierce and the Indian people are extremely protective
of their hunting grounds. In order to work the woods quietly on
this hunting expedition, the four men travel light, packing only
a simple bedroll of a woolen blanket, a necessary pouch of tools
and fire starter, a powderhorn and their vital long gun. The leader,
a man of mixed blood, has noticed moccasin prints in the snow. He
leans against his trade musket to see if they are recent. Suddenly,
they all feel the chilling rush as their question is answered by
              A Fearful Noise.
